Sorry for the dullness of this website for the past few weeks. I promise to do better. Last week WunderWife and I had to take WunderKid 3 down to Tampa for some medical attention. WunderKid 3 was born with a clubbed left foot. She had been seeing an orthopedic doctor here in WunderTown, but for some reason there are no PEDIATRIC Orthopedic doctors here. Her doctor did what he thought was best early on, but he had reached a stopping point and advised that surgery would be the next step. That is when we began searching for a second opinion. If surgery was needed, I wanted a pediatric to do it. Then an amazing thing happened…..
A friend of my Mother-in-law pointed us to the local Shriners and she put in a good word for us. We filled out the application and the board agreed to treat WunderKid 3. For those who do not know, Shriners are like the next step above Masons. I have no idea what they do, nor do I care to join either, but what I do know is that they help children with either burns or orthopedic needs. They have several hospitals around the country to treat as many children as possible.
We got to Tampa and met with the doctor. She did her undergraduate at Yale and her medical at NYU. She is a top notch pediatric orthopedic surgeon and she laid out all the steps ahead for us. It was so reassuring to hear that WunderKid 3 will be walking and no longer requiring treatment by this fall. The doctors and staff at the hospital were wonderful. They put the children first. And get this…… the treatment is free. What a blessing. Dont get me wrong, I would get a second mortgage on my house to pay for whatever any of my children need, but now that I do not have to…….what a blessing.
In short. Shriners and Masons good. Shrine Hospital in Tampa good. Support these groups if you can. They do wonderful things for children. It was very humbling to be at the hospital and to see these kids with such severe needs. WunderKid 3 has a very minor problem compared to the kids we saw. If it were not for the Shriners, I wonder if their parents could afford the quality and level of treatment they are receiving at the Shrine hospital.
Do not worry, all politics, all the time, will be back soon on this WunderKraut website.
