Oh, so now being moderately obese is ok? I hate the government! As I have ranted previously, I love how the government changes a guideline and overnight people who never considered themselves “obese” are now fat ass porkers!

First the CDC overstated the deaths attributed to obesity and now they are saying that you actually may live a little longer if you are moderately overweight.

Here are a few of my favorite lines:

According to the new calculation, obesity ranks No. 7 instead of No. 2 among the nation’s leading preventable causes of death.

And:

But like several recent smaller studies, it found that people who are modestly overweight have a lower risk of death than those of normal weight.

Biostatistician Mary Grace Kovar, a consultant for the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center in Washington, said “normal” [emphasis mine] may be set too low for today’s population.

Gee, do ya think?

I have said it before and I will say it again: the Body Mass Index is a load of horse manure!

UPDATE: Wizbang.com has posted a similar rant. It appears I am not the only one who does not care for the CDC. Here is the best line from the Wizbang post:

Why doesn’t the CDC quit throwing darts at the dart board and issue a press release that says: “We’re pretty sure being overweight is bad for you, but we’re not real sure how bad for you.” That would be the most accurate statement they’ve made in 12 months.

One Response to “Save Me From the CDC”

  1. [...] I have had other run-in’s with the CDC before. See here and here. Let’s just say that for my height and body type, I should weigh 175 lbs. When I graduated high school (back in 1992), I weighed 185. I was ripped. I would go without a shirt. I worked out. I exercised. I was a babe magnet…no seriously…how else did I convince my wife to marry me? I guess EVEN THEN I was overweight. Yeah right! [...]
