So anyway, I am listening to NPR’s Morning Edition while on my way into work when a story came on about the Mexican government being upset at the flow of illegal guns across the boarder. Thinking it had to be a parody piece, I listened to the entire thing. Get this: the Mexican government REALLY is upset and the best part is that they want the U.S. to do something about it.
Good old Renee Montagne gives the intro into the story and she uses the word illegal twice in opening piece. Well, it is good to know that NPR knows about the word “illegal” and they even seem to understand its meaning. Funny, I do not recall hearing them use it when talking about all the illegal immigrants flooding across our boarder. Anyway, she talks about how the weapons are aggravating the turf war between some drug cartels then she makes this important distinction:
While U.S. officials complain about drug trafficking [that's right, just trafficking going on...no need to use the word illegal] from Latin America. Mexican authorities are upset about the torrent [yes, torrent] of illegal [emphasis hers] weapons from the United States.
Before I go on, can you imagine NPR using this phrase: “the U.S. authorities are upset about the torrent of illegal immigrants”? Just a question…
Ok, let me get this straight, the Mexican government ACTIVELY encourages its citizens to illegally enter into the U.S. They even write “How To” manuals and point them to the easiest crossings. All this is a violation of U.S. sovereignty, which used to be enough to go to war over. With all the above being encouraged from the highest levels of the Mexican government, they have the NERVE to complain about U.S. guns being illegally smuggled into THEIR country?????
Oh man, the irony is so sweet. I have four words for the Mexican government: It sucks, doesn’t it?
The NPR story focused on how Mexican smugglers buy guns at gun shows in the U.S. and then smuggle them back into Mexico. There is a brief mention about all the drugs that come out of Mexico, which the U.S. spends millions trying to stop. The main reason for the gun smuggling is to arm the various Mexican drug cartels. They had a statement from a Mexican official in the Mexican Federal Preventive Police. Wow! I did not know they had such a group. So why aren’t they PREVENTING massive ILLEGAL immigration? Just a question. There was even a Mexican official quoted as saying that these guns contribute to the deaths of innocent people.
Oh Boo-freakin-Hoo. What about when one of these precious “migrant workers” illegally crosses the boarder and kills a cop? Where is NPR’s outrage over that?
Well, NPR continues and the focus shifts from the guns themselves, to how they are bought in the U.S. Brace yourself…the rest of the show deals with “evil” gun shows. Where you can buy as many guns as possible! Yee-Haw! Let’s go sell some guns to the Mexicans so they can smuggle them back to Mexico and kill innocent people! YEEEEE-HAAAAAWWW! That’s right; we are a bunch of gun lovin’ freaks up here. NPR even managed to get Canada into the mix. Hey, I thought the story was about gun smuggling into Mexico. How did Canada enter into it?
It has long exasperated Mexican officials, and some Canadians as well, that their restrictive gun laws are undermined by more relaxed U.S. gun rules.
Well, our sovereignty and national security are continually being undermined by Canada and Mexico’s NON-EXISTENT immigration laws and boarder security.
The piece ends with the NPR correspondent saying that the process of trying to regulate the licensed gun dealers is daunting… after all there are some 63,000 of them. My God!
I will begin to feel bad for the Mexican government only after they take active steps to keep their people from illegally entering the U.S. and they take steps to curtail the vast amounts of coke and weed coming across the boarder.
You really need to listen to the entire piece to get a good sense of the shear irony in NPR lamenting about lax boarder controls…..Not related to immigration mind you, but related to “evil” guns.
