This has got to be a sign of the end times: NPR has a balanced report on illegal immigration! I know, take a breath, I about passed out too.

Today on Morning Edition they had a report about a very disturbing loophole in our “border protection”. It seems that if you are caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and you are Mexican, the U.S. puts you on a bus for the nearest Mexican town. Upon arrival the load of illegal Mexicans are “processed” by the Mexican authorities. It is my guess that those same Mexicans are right back crossing the border in a few days. But at least we enforce the sovereignty of the U.S. and immediately deport the illegal crossers.

However…

If you are “Other Than Mexican”, or OTM, things are much easier. When an OTM is caught crossing the border, they are detained. If a cursory check turns up no warrants or other legal issues, the OTM is given a piece of paper indicating his court date and is made to sign a “promissory note” type document that indicates that he will show up for his court date.

Surprise, surprise, guess how many actually show up for their court dates? Hmm, about 2-3%!!!! The reporter indicated that in fiscal year 2003 there were 8,000 OTM’s captured crossing the border. In recent years that number has shot up dramatically. Already for the first 9 months of this year there have been 70,000 OTM’s! The report also showed that OTM’s consist of the usual Latin American countries, but they also listed China as one of the countries.

You have got to be kidding me! Can’t our country do a better job than this? Deploy the Army along the border. EVERY person caught crossing illegally should be bussed back to Mexico. Even though that may not be their country of origin. Let the Mexican authorities deal with the huge logistical problem such an action would create. Maybe they will stop treating our SOVEREIGN border with such disdain. Yeah, I’m talking to you Mexico!

Do you think that maybe, just maybe Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations will finally realize how easy it is to cross our southern border? After all, we are not allowed to racially profile people. So if a group of Middle Eastern men are caught crossing the Rio Grande, we will just give them a paper with their court date and send them on their way. Wow Mohamed, I never thought getting into my enemies country could be so easy!

Here is my solution to our border problem:

1. Deploy the Army along the border
2. Immediately deport all people caught crossing illegally
3. Examine the usefulness of building a wall in the most violated portions of our border
4. Cut some other worthless government program and increase the funding for the border patrol by a factor of 10

If anyone thinks that I am an advocate for a sealed border because I do not like immigrants and foreigners, you are WAY off base. This country was built by immigrants and I welcome all LEGAL immigrants to this country. I do not want to read that L.A. was leveled by a nuclear devise carried across our border by a group of Middle Eastern men who were given a piece of paper saying that they would show up at their court date. If that happens, it will be too late.

Kudos to NPR for actually running a story ALL about illegal immigrants and our piss poor border protection. Maybe having that Conservative on the Board of Directors is beginning to pay off.
