Well it finally happened. I finally got my first comment from a deranged Lefty. While it is not the work of art that other, more powerful bloggers, receive on a daily basis, I am proud to have received it.

The comment was placed on my post about the NPR story concerning our southern border that dealt with illegal border crossers who are “Other Than Mexican”, or OTM. In my post I call for more border protection in order to keep ILLEGAL aliens out of the country. My main point was that terrorists could begin using the OTM loophole and enter the U.S. with impunity. You will notice several things I did not say such as: hating immigrants, wanting to keep jobs for white Americans, anything related to trade. All I wrote about was the porous nature of our border and the scary fact that terrorists may be or will be exploiting a giant loophole in our homeland security. That being said, let’s take a look at what our commenter friend had to say. He left no email, screen name or website. I did a check on his IP and found it is registered in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Mr/Ms Commenter begins:

Did you ever wonder why people might be crossing the boarder [sic] to USA, you stupid Yankee prick?

Ok, so this guy already has some issues with me. There are many reasons why people the world over want to come to the USA. There is our suppression of free speech, repression of religion, harsh union laws, stringent workforce laws, abusive military and lack of judicial oversight. Oh, no, I am sorry. All those things are what people ARE TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM. My guess is that people want to come to the USA for reasons of personal freedom, equality under the law and economic opportunity.

Hmmm perhaps because trade restrictions forced upon Latin American countries make it impossible for them to support their families properly. I really sure that there is not one single Latin American who would state their dream job as orange picker for $3 per hour so before you criticise [sic] people for trying to do what they believe best for their family, you might want to look at the problems of your own country and the unnecessary controls they imposed upon peoples who should be free to do as they please in their own countries.

Huh? Trade restrictions? I thought NAFTA and CAFTA were working to change all that. Also, where does he get that I am trying to criticize people for trying to make a living. Hey that is great. Come on over and work to your hearts content. Start a business. Buy a house. Just use the proper procedures for entering our country. Once you are here, have at it. Create jobs. Help the economy. That is the American Dream. What do problems in the U.S. have to do with other countries? There are countries for reasons. Sovereign borders exist for reasons. It is a complex mixture of history, necessity and other societal factors that lead to nation states, but that is not important now.

I am English and I believe that after we colonised [sic] hundreds of countries in the 19th century, it’s about time that the rich gave a little back to those we have abused for the past two centuries!

Oh, now I see where he is coming from. He is one of those Post Modern studies type people that says no matter how much good has been created by the Western culture, it is never enough to pay for the sins of its founding. Whatever. But wait, doesn’t the U.S. and other Western countries give billions of dollars in aid to poor countries? Doesn’t that count for something? Or will you only be happy when there are no more rich people in the world? Come on out from behind your shield and state what you really believe.

There are other issues at play here. Why are some countries so much poorer than those of the West? Are we a better “race” of people? Nope. Are we more intelligent? Nope. Then why is there such a disparity in wealth? Part of the reason lays in the type of government of a country and how that government functions. Many poor countries are just now emerging from communist/socialist states. That type of government was ripe with abuse and on the whole, lead to poverty for many countries who tried it. Then there are the poor countries that are headed by military strongmen/dictators. Again corruption and lack of freedom contribute to the lack of wealth. Also, many if not most poor countries suffer from severe government corruption or mismanagement. In all this, explain how it is the West’s fault. The people of a country can choose what type of government they want to live under. If you do not like the system you are under, then rebel and set up one you do like. The West did the exact same thing.

I can also hear my commenter saying something to the effect that the U.S. helped prop up many corrupt regimes in order to further U.S. interests. Yes, there is no denying that we have done that in the past and will do it in the future. If we need to do such a thing to help safeguard our people or our interests, then we have to do it. It is immature to think otherwise.

What makes you think an American deserves a job more than a Mexican? Clearly we have a very perverted concept of human rights in the Western World!

Again, I said nothing about jobs for Americans. He is assuming I believe only white Americans deserve to work. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a country of immigrants. That is one of the things that gives us strength. But no country can sustain uncontrolled immigration. Just look at Europe and the problems they are having due to their open borders. It is not because I am afraid of people from different cultures or because they are not white. NO! I want our laws enforced. I want legal immigration. I want assimilation. I want a stronger U.S. But you can not just let everyone waltz across the border.

One of the pitfalls of writing about immigration is that the Left will instinctively call you an anti-immigrant racist. That is kind of what my commenter was getting at. He obviously assumes that I do not want any immigration and that I would rather Americans have jobs before immigrants. It must be that I am a racist. Again, he is very wrong. I believe in having our laws enforced.

Thanks for your comment, whoever you are. But please take the time to actually read my post before spouting a bunch of Liberal clap-trap.

  3. [...] Man, what gives? I write a nice long post Monday the 11th, about an NPR story concerning our borders and I even get my first unhinged Lefty commenter yet it takes until today, the 14th for the Washington Times to notice the story? Come on, you could have at least given me credit for it! Ha! [...]
