My Life With The Railroad @ Wednesday August 10, 2005 07:36 am by WunderKraut
Today I am heading out with the survey crew to do some real work. Back in my days with the railroad I surveyed all the time, but now I am firmly entrenched behind my computer in the comfort of air conditioning. So today, I get to break my chains, go out and die of heat stroke! Well, hopefully the guys will keep me alive. They assure me that I get to be point man with the machete cutting line. Lucky me. Ah, but it is good for the body and soul to do real work from time to time.
I will post something more exciting when we come in for lunch. That is, if they do not leave me in the woods…
See below for proof that I used to know a goods days work. The picture is of me setting up the instrument in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was after a good snow storm and if I remember correctly, the air temp was 0 degrees. That was a long day for this southern boy.

I feel your pain. I sit in air conditioned greatness even as we speak. Of course that last well site I was sent to was 114 degrees. The one before that was 20 degrees on top of a a large escarpment with 35 mph winds. Neither were much fun.
BTW, your CoC post is up over at File it under. All I can say is “nice.”
A long day because it was COLD or because it was INDIANA?
I vote ‘Indiana’, Major Dad being an Indianapolis native who refuses to acknowledge that there are better places to spend vacations…
I didn’t know Major Dad was a Indianapolitan. (Bet he didn’t know it either!)
It was a long day mainly because of the COLD. Fort Wayne was not the prettiest place in the world though. It beats Gary, IN though!
Actually my favorite two places to go with the railroad were Toledo, Oh and Buffalo, NY. Granted, both places sucked in the winter, but I spent so much time in both places that I got to know the town a bit. I had my favorite hotel and restaurants.
I never did get used to the cold and the snow…
