WunderWife and I are off to Atlanta for an International Adoption Seminar that our agency wants us to attend. (info on adoption here)

We will be back late Saturday. That means no more posting until at least Sunday night.

You guys have fun and please try to not burn the place down while I am gone.

That is all.

I read on Ace that you have poison ivy. And you were getting the typical idiotic “what to do to make it better” suggestions.

Nah. NONE of those things work. (Including prescription medications …well, the ones they prescribed 25 years ago, at least.)

But I know what does take the itch of poison oak – temporarily – away.

I discovered this “semi-cure” quite by accident (something like 30 years ago). I turned the wrong knob way up in the shower …it was a mistake (”new” apartment, “new” shower …and some idiot plumber had put the hot where the cold was and vice versa).

Omigawd it was hot …and …say …that feels really good. Really really good. I got out of the shower looking like a boiled lobster.

Yeah. REALLY HOT-HOT WATER applied directly to a poison oak rash …feels good. More importantly, for the next 4-6 hours, the itching stops.

I used to get poison oak a lot (I worked in a sawmill on the coast in the Pacific Northwest way back when, and the green chain was near the de-barker: I figured every once-in-awhile, it “debarked” a log with a LOT of poison oak on it).

Dunno why it works. Don’t care. Never asked a doctor about it either. Quit going to the doctors about poison oak after that. Just know it worked. Figure it would work just fine with poison ivy too (though I’ve never had that TYJ).

Using hot HOT water didn’t seem to make any difference to the progression of the rash, either. The progression of the symptoms doesn’t seem affected at all. All the hot water “treatment” does is …feel really good when you “apply” it, and take the itch away for several hours thereafter. Then you take another hot shower, and it “works” the same way again. (And you will. Guarantee it.)

Try it. You’ll thank me for this, kid.

(Saw your comments on Ace about the poison ivy, and you seemed like a good sort, hence this ….)

    Cheers!

WK! I really must make an effort to get to everyone’s blogs (still pretty new to reading blogs). So, come to find out, we live in the same town!

I pretty much just hang out at Emily, Ken and Dave’s but the birthday stuff he posted for you brought me over here.

I do hope everything continues to go smoothly.

    Zsa Zsa!!!!!

    Welcome back!

I saw the post on Willisms that said you were back in town. I have missed your cheerleading here, at File it Under and at Willsims.

    Brandon,

Thanks man for the input. Yeah, I found that out by accident as well around Wed. of last week. You are right, you look like a lobster, but the itching DID stop. I am now fighting the oozing and blistering. Thankfully it is confined to one spot on my right forearm. But it is the most disgusting thing I have ever see.

Last night I scrubbed it with a soapy rag and then poured alcohol on it. The funny thing was, it did not hurt. That sort of concerned me, but today it looks like the giant oozing blister is about to run its course. The itching has stopped for the most part. Man I hope this stuff goes away soon. I have gotten poison ivy MANY times, but this was the worst. I guess it is what I get for actually doing REAL work.

    Darn surveyors.
