Update 9-8-05 9:05 AM: Ok. I have the money to get the new AC unit. Let’s just say some creative financing involving family, a buddy, a loan and a 401k took place last night. The new unit will be installed the first part of next week. I am very grateful for the help and I hate it had to happen, but there was nothing else for me to do. Anyway, if you still want to contribute to the WunderKraut Memorial Air Conditioner Fund…..by all means toss your bad, third party, out of state, checks and commemorative coins into the old tip jar below:

Update 9-7-05 2:25 PM: Hear that soft, sweet sound of the bugle? That would be Taps being played for the WunderFamily’s air conditioner.

Starting now I am in fundraiser mode. Anyone care to donate money to help me buy a new unit? It looks like it will cost me between $3,000 and $3,500 a 3.5 ton Ammana will run me $4,100 installed or I can go with a Ruud for $3,000 installed. It still sucks. Man that sucks.

Update: Just got back in from another call. WunderWife called to say she had a flat tire on the van. Thankfully, she was across the street from the Goodyear store where I bought the tires from. I talked them into sending a truck with a jack across the street. They took the tire off and brought back a new one. Glad I had the roadside warranty thing. But, it took an hour, so I have some time to make up today. Isn’t life fun?

So our air conditioner crapped out last night. Luckily, and I do mean luckily, South Georgia is in the midst of Fall like weather. Nice breeze, low humidity. Last night was not too bad.

BUT…..

The repair people may not make it out today. If it gets too warm I guess we will head to the in-laws house for the night.

I really do not want to do that, but if it is hot enough, I will.

Do not hesitate to call if you need something, brotha. Make sure your WunderWife knows to give CullenSpouse a call if she needs to escape the heat or something.

But, yeah, the weather’s been nice.

Thank goodness. Thanks man, we will keep that in mind. As it is, she is stuck at the house…now that the tire is fixed…waiting for the AC guy to show up. I am praying it is only the fan motor that seized up and not the compressor…

Too bad we’re in Georgia. My uncle and my grandfather fixed air conditioners as part of their jobs. Usually, my uncle can diagnose and fix most things. Except a bad compressor of course.

Hey, our AC is working good too if Jen and the kids need a respite. Just tell her to call Staci. Man I thought I was the only one that had these kind of days. Did I tell you about the traffic citation/collision I had last week? Found out today that my fine will be $100.50. (I ran a redlight–too long of a story to go into here) The repair on my truck will cost $1800, thank goodness we only have a $250 deductible. So, all told, about $350 smackers because I was a big dummy.

Yeah days like today are always fun. Sorry to hear about your moving violation. You did not mention that the other day.

I can not get over how nice it has been the past few days. I KNOW the weather gods are just toying with me, but is almost feels like fall!

Yeah. Just wait until that tropical depression is sitting over our heads and we get our 40 days and 40 nights.

Ouch. Um … I wish I had disposable income. I can however offer an air conditioned sanctuary when needed.

They patched up the old unit. It may run for a week or for a few more months….they made no promises. My heat exchanger is rusted through, so, we need a new unit for the winter at the very least. It’s been a long day. Things always work out in the end. I do not know how, but they always do work out.

It is something were a component can be replaced? I’ve got resources for getting parts if it’s possible.

PS, just looked around … Albany Air Conditioning carries Carrier (heh heh) and offers financing.

    Man that really bites! 4k…ouch!

Rudd was no good then? Or did you just decide to go with an established name?

My father in law bought an Amana. The reason he liked his, and I see his point, is the heat exchanger is a separate flow path than the air conditioner. That way you do not have cold air blowing across the heat exchanger in the summer. They also have a lifetime warranty on the exchanger and the condenser. Plus, they have had theirs for two summers and it runs like a gem and their cooling bill went down a good bit. That is the long and short of it.

Actually, I really like the Carrier unit. It had cool variable speed blowers and two stage gas. It also had a way to control the humidity. But I just did not have the $5,500 needed for that unit. But is sure sounded purdy!

My uncle used to work for Carrier. And he has only ever owned a Carrier. That goes a long way in my book. But I understand the money. Man do I understand lack of money.
