Update 10-27-05 9:12 AM: Well I’ll be….Gee, I sure am glad that I switched sides at the last minute…..Via Michelle Malkin:
I posted about the Miers nomination to the Supreme Court last week. I agreed with the line of thought at the time that, while Miers was not the best pick and I WAS DISAPPOINTED, she would probably be ok. The in-fighting in the Conservative ranks, at the time, seemed like a larger danger.
However…
That was before her piss poor answers to the Judiciary Committee. It was almost like she filled out her questionnaire in crayon and then added at the end, “I like ponies.” This lady is a train wreck of a pick. If she stands before the Judiciary Committee, she will be slaughtered. And unfortunately, it appears that the slaughter would be warranted.
As of today, I oppose the Miers nomination.
If she had submitted substantial answers to the Judiciary Committee or if her one on one meetings with Senators had gone smoothly, then I would still not be happy with the pick, but she probably would have done ok. As it stands, she is a terrible pick and Bush should find a way for her to bow out with as little damage as possible.
What was I thinking…..

First they try to bring more women into the mix, next thing you know a minority is running for president. Damn it all, damn it all to hell. But then again the first minority president is going to be a black woman.
You lost me there Draco?
I have nothing against Miers being a woman. I do have a problem with being totally unqualified for the job.
Condi in 2008!!!!!!
I have no problem with women in political positions, but when the only thing backing them is the president saying “trust me” my faith in the government starts to waver. wether or not Bush is a good president or not is up to the people to decide. His word on the other hand has the credibility of a lawyer. His approval rating has already bottomed out and if he wants the American people to ‘trust him’ then he really needs to do something big. I don’t know about you, but the war doesn’t seem to be a way of gaining any trust for the current administration. Personally I think my high school english teacher would be more qualified.
Well, he didn’t wage the war because he wanted to gain our trust or boost his numbers. He did it because war was visited upon us. Nobody said that it would be easy or cheap.
That being said – the Miers thing was totally fugazi. Much like George H., our current president seems to do much better in foreign affairs than domestic, because he really wants people here to like him and cooperate with him. The lefties take full advantage of this to batter him, even when he isn’t putting his own boot in it. I said it before, I’ll says it again – do the right thing, W. If they’re going to holler, it may as well be for all the stuff you did right.
What Fly said. I didn’t like Miers. I didn’t agree with the people who said, she’s gotta be good becuase the pres says so. But, I did want to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I don’t see what’s so gosh darn important about making snap decisions when you don’t have to. That is, if you have the luxury of taking some time to find things out, use the time given you before you go off half cocked.
