Pat Oliphant is a jackass. He has had his share of truly tasteless editorial cartoons, but today’s is one of his worst ones yet:
You know, there was a time when even thinking about calling your Commander In Chief Hitler would have brought a well deserved backlash from the American people and the press. Not today.
Sure Hitler killed over 6 millions Jews, several million other people, started the most destructive war in history and destroyed most of Europe for his own personal megalomania….
BUT
Bush is JUST AS EVIL!!!!
Come off it already. Give me proof. Show me where Bush has started wars without reason (no, you can’t use Iraq and Afghanistan - Iraq had UN approval. Whether you can accept that or not is your own problem). Show me where our military has wiped out whole towns. Show me his Eeinsatzgruppens. Show me where he has rounded up entire ethnic people and had them summarily executed. Show me where he has stated his intention of wiping a certain group or ideology off the face of the earth. Show me.
And don’t tell me that Guantanamo and other detainees being held throughout the world is the same thing. There may be 1,000 men total, that’s all, being held without due process. But you know what? They were captured in a war, fighting against our men. They were not wearing uniforms and sought protection by using civilians as shields. As a result THEY DO NOT QUALIFY AS POW’S! Since they are also not U.S. citizens, they are not afforded the protections under our Constitution. In fact, they probably should have been killed on the battlefield. Who doubts that when they are freed, that they will pick up arms against us again? So no, 1,000 enemy fighters being held in prison does not equal Hitler.
So show me another reason why you would compare the sitting President of the United States of America to Hitler?
What?

PS: Can I officially question Pat Oliphant’s patriotism? Hell, maybe even his loyalty?

You could just run an entire month’s worth of columns with one macro: “____________: Worthless Sack of $***”. Just fill in the blank for each new sack! You could call it Lefty Mad-Libs.

On the contrary, it seems that Mr. Oliphant is the one taking things too seriously. He thinks the detention of non-citizen combatants in wartime is akin to the mass deportations and executions of the Holocaust; that a twice-elected president who can never run again is a dictator-for-life; that speeches which take pains to show our enemies in the best possible light are identical to froth-flecked tirades painting non-citizens as apes and inferior creatures; and that rebuttal freely offered on blogs is the descent of the iron blanket of censorship.
If any of it was true he’d disappear, unheard of, like so many journalists. That part, at least, is true - those who utter the truth about their governments’ repression often vanish, to be tortured and executed: only these people are Cuban, Chinese, and Iranian, so Oliphant can’t be bothered. He’d rather whimper about his own martyr complex to a murmuring, appreciative crowd of sycophants than turn his eye or his pen to anyone actually suffering. Ha fucking ha.

Its only natural that the American people would want to insult and whine about the current president. Its what we do. What bothers me is the question of, why are we continuing to focus our attention on Iraq? What ever happened to the good ‘ole days where we didn’t care if a foreign country completely collapsed in on itself and dissappeared into a sea of chaos and martial ‘law’? I say let the country destroy itself. I’m tired of listening to all of the complaining and the childish behavior that people are taking. Just because Bush was elected as the scapegoat..I mean president of the united states doesn’t mean that he should be blamed for everything. What are we as a free society doing to help solve the problem and end this conflict sooner? It almost seems like the ones who hate him the most are the same people who are sitting at home in their undershorts watching t.v. and eating cheetos.

All of these people, when it comes to Iraq, need to face ONE BASIC FACT: there were NO effective changes in US, or global, intelligence on Iraq between the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration. Bush was acting primarily on intel that was IDENTICAL to that which Clinton used to justify 1998’s “Operation Desert Fox”, whose sole purpose was to bomb Iraqi WMD storage and production sites.
Between ‘98 and ‘01, the only updates on Iraq were made via satellite and expatriate Iraqi informants. The same “system of proof” was used by Bush as was previously used by Clinton.
The difference? Clinton ultimately changed nothing. If he succeeded in partially or wholly destroying Iraq’s WMD stockpiles, no intel agency has ever confirmed it and no Iraqi source has ever admitted it. Bush, however, has removed a confirmably murderous tyrant from power, instituting in his place world’s FIRST major Arabic democracy, and the best Bush’s opponents can come up with is a set of UFO-class conspiracy theories designed to make Bush out to be WORSE than Hussein.
Personally, I chalk most of this anti-Bush hysteria up to the “Sour Grapes” mentality the Democrat Party has been nursing and expanding upon ever since November 2000.
