One of the great family traditions in the WunderFamily is to have breakfast for dinner. This is great for three reasons: it is easy to make, it is cheap and it tastes great.

Tonight we decided on breakfast for dinner. As usual, it is my job to do the cooking on nights like tonight. So, I decided to use some of my Christmas presents.

In honor of Mr. Bingley over at The Coalition of the Swilling, I am going to describe our dinner. Followers of Bingley’s posts will notice a few “differences”. I guess I am not quite as cultured….

Anyway…

One of the great things about being an engineer is that every Christmas contractors stop by and drop off gifts. The monetary value is not that high, so we are allowed to accept these gifts. As is usually the case, two contractors give basically the same gift. They give us a package of fresh smoked sausage and other what nots from a local butcher.

This year one contractor gave just sausage, while the other gave sausage, bacon, cheese and cane syrup (not shown). That is the package I dove into tonight. I grabbed the bacon and went to town.

I like to cut my bacon in two to make for easier cooking in my cast iron skillet. It fried up nicely.

After about 15 minutes of cooking, all the bacon was fried up. It turned out great. This is the good old thick sliced, old-fashioned fresh bacon. Yes Dad, it is the kind that gets real hard when you fry it. Tasty.

I decided to take a picture of the finished product along side the beverage of choice for tonight’s meal. Here is where Bingley’s and my tastes drastically diverge…

Now, what to cook to go along with my bacon? Eggs of course. I do not care what they say about eggs. One day they will kill you, the next day they are ok and the day after that they are wonderful. It does not matter to me. I love them.

After turning them over to make them over easy, it is time to dish up my plate.

Yes, I ate three fried eggs and several pieces of bacon washed down with a coke. I am fine. No need to dial 911. Like I said, one day the eggs will kill you, the next they are ok. I guess today is an ok day!

Anyway. I hope you enjoyed breakfast for dinner.

I felt I needed to do a light hearted post after all the doom and gloom that I posted on Friday.

Heheh, looks great, Mike. Interestingly enough, we had breakfast for dinner last night also. Eggs, grits and cheesy hashbrowns. Yummy!

Unfortunately, the best breakfast place around here is not open after 3 o’clock, but this is Jersey, the Land of Diners, so there are still fine options if one wants some over-easy action…

Oh man, that looks heavenly! Nothing is better than over-easy eggs. Pleasepleaseplease tell me you fried the eggs in butter, and that that can of PAM on the side was just to add some backround color to the photo! Or better yet, you used the bacon drippings to cook the eggs…

    Dangnabbit, I’m starving now.

    Mmmmmmmm, BAcon {8^P.

Dang, I miss being able to go out for a decent breakfast. No place but Waffle House, IHOP and Cracker Barrel here. There used to be a place on the ski slopes where we grew up that did REAL potato pancakes, sour cream and 2 over easy that was Heaven’s own yummy. Everything since has paled in comparison. ::sigh::

(And that BETTER not be PAM…or Nancy for that matter.)

Ok, You cought me! It IS Pam.

    *hangs head in shame*

But, when I cook with butter, I do not do well. Pam makes the eggs just slide right out of the pan.

    Better living through chemicals.

Butter is the best, buddy. Just have to remember to use a low heat.

I, for one, love IHOP. I met my wife at IHOP (our coffee shop of choice back in those days).
