Our local park/zoo, Chewhaw Park, had their annual Frontier Days this weekend. So, we packed up the kids and headed on over.

It was pretty neat. Not as big as I had hoped, but for Albany, it wasn’t half bad.

They had two guys turning a few deer pelts into buckskin. That was pretty interesting:

More pictures after the jump.

Everyone was dressed up circa 1830. They had Teepees and other period encampments:

These two guys were talking shop…it occurred to me that our South Georgia “Traders and Trappers” are a bit heavier than what they must have been back then…kind of like our Civil War re-enactors…those sure are some fat Jonnie Rebs you got there…anyway…it was cool to see their equipment:

There was a lady spinning wool. Now, that was interesting. She took the time to stop and explain how her loom worked and what she was doing. It made me very grateful for my local Wal-Mart. No wonder they wore the same clothes all the time…it took forever to make new ones:

The blacksmith was pretty cool too. Again, we take so much for granted with our highly machined tools and parts. Back in the day, this guy was like a God. I commented to my buddy that if the world ends tomorrow, this guy will be a millionaire:

All in all, it was a fun afternoon. We took the kids across the street to the giant play park and let them run themselves into the ground. By the time we got them home, I almost needed to hose them off in the front yard. They were that dirty.

While I had a good time, I kept thinking the same thing:

Thank God I Was Born In The Late 20th Century!!!!!
