Just sitting here, getting my Pink Floyd fix.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

“Time” from The Dark Side of the Moon

Did I ever tell you about the Pink Floyd concert I went to while in college? My goodness it was an amazing show…

It was on their Division Bell tour and they played at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the Georgia Tech campus. I was not going to go to the show because the tickets were a bit pricey and besides it was raining off and on the night of the show.

Me and my buddies had been working out and were walking back to our dorm when we were approached by ticket scalpers. I got in for $15.

It was the best show I’ve ever seen.

One of the great things about Pink Floyd is that they sound great live. It is almost like putting in a CD and hitting play. The concert I went to was no different. Their stage show is incredible. Lights, smoke, more lights, giant movie screen, more lights…

They played all their classics and a few of the new songs.

The best part was their finale when they played “Comfortably Numb”. That is one of my favorite Floyd songs mainly due to the wonderful guitar solos throughout the song. David Gilmour has a great voice and his guitar playing is a thing of beauty. I always wanted to learn the guitar solos for “Comfortably Numb” and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. Alas, I was never that good and did not have the patience or the time to learn them.

Anyway, when they started playing “Comfortably Numb”, I knew it was going to be special. The light show and Gilmour’s playing were beyond words. At the end, a giant crystal ball rose up out of the field and opened up like a flower. It was great.

Here is a video of them playing the song at another concert. Since the venue is indoors, the giant crystal ball/flower thing comes down from the roof. Things to look for in the video are Gilmour’s great solos, the light show and then the crystal ball/flower thing at the end.

Man, that was a great show.
