Part 2 – The Solution
We really want to sell our house next year if the market turns around, but we know we have two issues that need to be addressed before we put the house up: the hopelessly ugly kitchen and the floor in the hall bathroom.
I’ve got a plan and I’m about to use it…
We had some funds set aside to work on the house, so we decided it was time to tackle the kitchen.
A good friend of mine has a tile business. I’ve seen his work and know he is meticulous. He gave me a price to tile the kitchen floor and he told us to go pick out tile.
Off to Lowes we went.
We fell in love with a certain tile. A certain tile that cost $2.25 per square foot. My floor area is about 190 square feet, which would make for an expensive tile job. Luckily, we found a similar tile on sale for only $0.68 per square foot. We loaded up the 13 boxes and headed home. Jen and her Mom picked wall and trim paint to match the new tile.
Our refrigerator has been giving us some problems lately with leaking water. I did not want to mess up the new tile floor, so we decided to buy a new fridge. Our dishwasher is ancient and broken and needed replacing as well.
We priced counter tops and quickly found out that we did not have enough money for them at this time. So, they were going to have to wait.
Same goes for the oven/stove. Maybe we could paint them or get a new door or something, but not this time around.
I am going to be repainting the cabinets and replacing the old hardware with something we actually like. However, that is going to be a time consuming project in itself, so we decided to wait until after we got the floor replaced. Then I can work on the cabinets are time permits.
That’s it in a nutshell. I scheduled the work and D-Day was set for April 21st.
