UPDATE: Sanity prevails…for now…the Democrats failed to get enough votes…this time…
I’ve had it with Congress, both Democrats and Republicans.
Tired of paying high prices at the pump? Guess what? If Congress gets their way, you will pay more.
Why?
Because they are a bunch of dumb bastards:
“The oil companies need to know that there is a limit on how much profit they can take in this economy,” said Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat…
—
The Senate proposal would impose a 25 percent tax on profits over what would be determined “reasonable” and would allow oil companies to avoid paying the tax if they invest the money in alternative energy projects or refinery expansion.
Do we really want Congress to determine what a “reasonable” profit is? How is this not an outright attempt to nationalize the oil industry? Hell, Congress can’t even run a restaurant. Why should ANY business be limited in the amount of money they can make? If they are abiding by the laws that govern their industry, they should make as much money as the market will allow. It’s called Capitalism and it’s one of the things that make this a great country.
Also, does anyone out there actually think that companies pay one cent in taxes?
Really? You do?
Well they file tax returns and pay money, so yes, they must pay taxes…
If you think so, you are about as smart as Congress.
If something costs a company money, it is an expense. A tax is an expense. How do companies set prices? They total all their expenses and compare it to what the market will allow and they set the price accordingly. If an expense goes up, that expense will ultimately find its way to the price you pay.
So, raise taxes on “EVIL BIG OIL”!!!!! Yeah stick it to the greedy fat cats!!!!!
Um…how come the cost of gas just went up again?
Having government set “reasonable” profits is an attack on free enterprise. Setting up windfall profits tax will only increase the cost you and I pay.
Do they even teach economics any more?

No surprise. Maxine Waters pretty much said outright that the oil companies ought to be nationalized. Considering that the Congress doesn’t want us to drill for oil pretty much anywhere ever (because Gaia will cry!), that means, yup, those businesses will be doomed.
And if businesses don’t pay taxes, what do you think Congress doesn’t do either? A-yep. So there goes all that revenue, which of course will have to be replaced, because Odin forbid that the State should ever do without.
That Durbin the Turban is the Senate shill for this does not particularly surprise me either. The depth of what he knows couldn’t drown a dime.
Dumb bastards? Why are you being so nice? These people in office have absolutely no clue how the real world works and what real people go through to go to work and provide for their families. It is insane that the Democrat-led Congress is still refusing to allow increased production of American energy. On their watch, gas prices have soared to new heights, and by refusing to schedule a vote on a plan to increase American-made energy to help lower gas prices, congressional Democrats are complicit in this unprecedented surge in fuel costs. Every American has a right to ask: What will it take for the Democrat-controlled Congress to finally take action and help ease the pain of the Pelosi Premium on behalf of struggling families and small businesses? Speaker Pelosi has the power to schedule a vote on our plan to begin breaking America’s costly dependence on foreign sources of energy. She should not wait another day to do so.
