UPDATE: We had a great time. My first shot was high by about 2.5 inches and right by at least 1 inch. A few clicks on the scope and my third shot was about a 1/4 inch high of the bull’s-eye. Good enough for government work. Then we headed over to the hunting lease and walked a bit of it. In the hottest part of the day…It’s going to take some work and some thinking on where to set stands and what not, but at least we have a place to go this year!

My brother-in-law and I went in with 2 other guys to get a hunting lease this year. I’m very excited as I won’t have to rely on invites to go hunting. I’ll a place of my own.

Today I asked if he would help me site in my rifle. I did not shoot it last year, so I need to make sure it’s still on target.

I have a nice little Ruger 25-06.

Cleaning the gun

I’ve killed two deer and a hog with this gun. I hope to get a few more deer this year as the freezer is empty.

25.’06. Very nice choice. My primary is a .280 Rem, but I’m very much into using various rifles belonging to various family members. Eventually, GLWATCDR, I will take one with each of them.

I think I want to eventually get into blackpowder hunting. That sounds like fun to me.

Blackpowder is very fun. I have not hunted with it yet, but I pop off the Hawken on occasion.

BTW, didn’t realize until just now - You sighted in at 1/4″ high? What distance? If it’s at 100 yds, you should strongly consider going back to 1″ ore even 1-1/2″ high unless you are certain to have all shots within 150 yds. Much longer point blank distance.

    Just sayin’…

I can tell you from the looks of where we will be hunting and my eyes…I wont be shooting at much over 100 yards. Yeah, it was at 100 yards

I’ve always wanted to learn how to handle an actual firearm, and not one of those Virtua Cop deals in the arcade.

You know, I’ve never seen “Good Lord willin’ an’ the crick don’t rise” abbreviated before. It would have taken me longer to figure out the initials than it did just to type it out!

Move away from New Jersey down here to South Georgia where you can find all kinds of things to shoot.
