Ok, so I’m walking through Rite Aid looking for some children’s cold medicine when my ear catches the beat of the song playing in the store.

Naturally, I adjusted my stride to coincide with the beat…don’t look that way at me…you know you do it too.

Anyway, after a few seconds it dawned on me what song was playing: “All By Myself” by Eric Carman.

Wow, one look at the guy and you can tell why he’s all by himself. Especially given that the video was made just a few days ago…geesh buddy, get a haircut hippy!

After listening to that song, good luck not having it stuck in your brain, on a perpetual loop. I’ve found myself breaking out into spontaneous song, belting out the chorus, for no apparent reason. I’ve done it in my car, at my desk, at home and I even found myself whistling it under my breath when I walked into church on Sunday….

What is it with songs like this? How is it that they stick in my head forever, yet I can’t remember what I did yesterday?

Now my problem has become your problem. Excellent…my plan is coming together.

Geek Update: Shockingly, this song has been covered 27 times since its release in 1975, per the never, couldn’t possibly, ever be wrong, wikipedia.

Some of the notable covers: Frank Sinatra (I’ve gotta hear that version), Hank Williams Jr. (here it is), Tom Jones, Eartha Kitt, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Celine Dion and a whole bunch of other people. This thing gets covered every few years…I hope he has all the rights to the song. Dudes probably a millionaire.

Update to the Update: I found The Frank singing it. Yes, it’s just what you would imagine. I love it! :-P

What’s the over/under on the number of people Frank “took care of” over the years? How about just “roughed” up a bit?
