So. Why name a website wunderkraut.com? That is a good question and to give you a good answer I will need to fill you in on a little history of Wunder Kraut.
It all began back in 1996 or '97. I had a kick butt Pentium 100 Packard Bell computer with a 14" monitor (Smell that? That's sarcasm) and my college buddies were over eating steak and playing computer games. I was showing off my new Wingman joystick while playing the classic Aces Over Europe. I was in a hurry and was just going through the motions of setting up a character in order to get into the cockpit and show off my dog fighting skills. Well, I was going to be flying the ME-109, so I needed a good German name. Not able to spell anything in German, or English for that matter, I came up with Barron von Wonder Krout. My buddies thought that was the funniest name they had ever heard. So it kind of stuck. I changed it to the more correct Wunder Kraut soon there after. From that day on my buddies would refer to me as Wunder Kraut. Back then I was just getting into online game playing and so I chose Wunder Kraut as my screen name. I used that name from then until summer of 2002 when I gave up online game playing in order to spend more time with my growing family. It was a fun 6 years or so.
Some of you out there may have played against me in the past in games such as: Gettysburg, Total Annihilation, Quake 2, UT, or Netrek. Ah Netrek! What, you never heard of Netrek before? Well my friend that is a real game! VEGA colors and no sound (well there was a COW client that had sound). No flashy eye candy there. I encourage you to look up Netrek on Goggle, download COW and for those of you in school, watch your GPA tumble. It is a well-established fact that the number of hours played is inversely proportional to your resulting GPA. It is a kick though. Back in the day I played against guys like G-Man and Dr. Death and I went by the call sign I EAT TORPS!!. I then started a new character after I graduated called WunderKraut. You may find old records of mine from the I EAT TORPS!! days. When I retired I EAT TORPS!! I had over 300 hours of playing time logged. Ah, those were the days.
So long story short: Wunder Kraut grew out of a split second decision in a game. The name stuck and I always wanted a website called wunderkraut.com. Just so some of you do not get the wrong idea: I am not German, not a racist, not a Nazi nor am I affiliated with nor support any racist activities. I am a history buff and enjoy WW2 mainly for the kick butt equipment plain and simple. Especially tanks. So please understand that nothing should be implied from the name of this website other than it was my old online gaming name that I made up on the spur of the moment and my friends thought was funny. End of discussion.
